It's a struggle to adopt the 'green' life, but what do you do when they still haven't perfected eco-friendly cat litter?

Something occurred to me the other day while I wandered the organic/eco-friendly aisles of my local grocery store: if you're married and one of you goes green, the other person has to go green by default. Not that you wouldn't want to, (I mean, are you some kind of monster?) but you pretty much have to go along with it. Or you could, of course, buy separate groceries and household items, which is not green, financially responsible, or in the spirit of holy matrimony.
I've been on the environmental crusade for several months now, and my wonderful husband has patiently and enthusiastically been there with me. He's toting the green bags to the store, doesn't get annoyed at my silly eco purchases ("Hey honey organic pot holders!") and even bought me green gifts for my birthday. But he had to put his foot down at the eco-friendly cat litter. He cleans the cat box (lucky him, huh?) but I buy the litter. He suffered in silence through 2 bags of the eco-friendly stuff before he said something:
Him: Babe, this eco-litter is killing me.
Me: But it's eco-friendly!
Him: The house stinks and the stuff is getting everywhere.
Me: But we'll kill the environment with the other stuff!
Him: This stuff is killing our environment!
The man makes a point. What's the point of having eco-friendly products if you have to live in a house that smells like cat potty? So, we went back to the old stuff and lesson learned: not everything in your house has to be eco-friendly in order for you to be eco-friendly. And going green, like any strong marriage, is about compromise.
