For the last several months, we here at KSTW have been working on Project Green.  We've scoured the web searching through hundreds, if not thousands, of articles on how to be green.  We have had countless meetings on what Project Green is and how people can be involved.  I personally have picked up every magazine over the past 6 months that has put out a "green issue" – and trust me, there have been a lot of them.  In short, Project Green has become a very large part of my job and the jobs of my colleagues.

But, I'm embarrassed to admit, although I was putting in the green work from 8am-5pm, I was coming up very short from 5pm-8am.  I can clearly remember being very annoyed when the city of Seattle mandated that all recyclables be placed in the appropriate bin.  I have thrown many a soda can or piece of junk mail in the trash, driven the short distance between my house and the local park in my SUV and left lights on in every room of my home.  In fact, confession time: there is one lamp in my rarely-used living room that was left on for – gasp – over a month.

Hello, my name is Megan and I'm a waste-aholic.

I know what you're thinking: I am incredibly lazy.  I thought nothing of it; these were pretty minor infractions in my book.  So, for the last 6 months I've been an environmental Jekyll and Hyde: green crusader by day, global warmer by night.

The double life was too much – I needed to make a change.

The more I read about living green the more I realize that even though I can't afford a hybrid car or brand new appliances, there are countless things I can do everyday to do my part.  I'm talking simple things here; turning off the lights when I leave the room, washing more loads of laundry in cold water.  I can walk to the park and take the extra steps to the recycle bin.  I started replacing light bulbs in my house with energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs and even brought my own shopping bags to the grocery store.

Now that I've started doing these things, I can't believe that it has taken me this long to "clean it up" as one of my KSTW colleagues likes to say.  It's not hard; in fact, it's actually kind of fun.  But there's a lot more to do, so that's why we've started this blog.  We, the KSTW staff, will be sharing our green experiences with you and invite you to share your experiences with us.  Have you made any green changes in your lifestyle?  Tell us about it!  Tips and tricks to share?  Let us know!

That's all for now.  Be sure to check back often for green articles and tips on how you can make your corner of the world more green!
