    RR&R: Sex Scandal Success

    by Aaron Fields | KSTW.com

When I wrote my first article about the New York governor sex scandal, I was pretty much content with leaving it at that. Due to the fact that I have recently seen more and more stories about the woman involved in the scandal I felt the need to rant a little.

First off I can't imagine that there is someone reading this that hasn't heard about it but just in case there is, click here for my article on that.

Ashley Alexandra Dupre has seemed to be getting a lot of attention lately for her involvement in the now well-known Spitzer sex scandal. However it's not necessarily bad attention. Since this news broke I have heard and read numerous reports of her being offered everything from $1,000,000 dollar deals with hustler to possible music, book and movie deals. Simply put, I'm outraged!

As I previously mentioned before, society loves a sex scandal and this just goes to prove it. How is it that two people involved in the same story have two completely different responses? Neither Ashley nor Eliot Spitzer had clean hands in this matter but one party is clearly being praised while the other has been condemned. You cannot have one without the other. Prostitution won't exist without clients and clients won't exist without prostitution.

Shortly after the news of the scandal surfaced, Ashley's MySpace page had a reported 2,000,000 hits within 18 hours. This prompted her to quickly put up two tracks she recorded to be sold on a website I'm sure most people haven't even heard of until this happened.

What I will not do is blame Ashley for taking advantage of her 15-minutes of fame. Her goal was to be in music and I'm sure this is going to help a tremendous amount. Who in their right mind wouldn't go for it? You're name is going to be out there whether you wanted it to or not. If you can improve your life because of it, you might as well. Like the old saying goes "if you can't beat em', join em."

I will blame society however. All modern day attention goes to the big cash cow at the time despite the fact that they probably have nothing of relevance to offer. Remember the days when actors could truly act and singers could really sing. Guess it's safe to say those days are over and now we thrive on scandalous stories and outlandish behavior as a means of deciding who becomes the next household name.
