"All you need is love; all you need is love…" Well, maybe not in Paul McCartney's case. The Beatle, who is arguably the most noted of the Beatle members, is paying his ex-wife, Heather Mills, nearly 25 million pounds, ($50 million) in a divorce settlement.

"I'm so glad it's over and it was an incredible result, in the end, to secure my and my daughter's future, and that of all the charities that I obviously plan on helping," said Mills. Mills and McCartney met in 2002 at a charity event – Mills is known for donating to charities and for being a campaigner after she lost a leg in a car accident in 1993.

Mills has since lashed out at news media coverage of the divorce, which she said has been unfair to her and driven her to the brink of suicide. Mills said she needed more than $70,000 per year for their daughter Beatrice, in order for her to attend private schools and fly first class airfare on holiday each year.

In a television interview last year, Mills said she had endured "18 months of abuse, worse than a murderer or pedophile." Whether these claims have complete truth to them remain to be seen, but McCartney refused to comment after the verdict was out following a dragged out divorce trial.
