Synopsis:
Forest Whitaker, Dennis Quaid, William Hurt, and Matthew Fox star in director Pete Travis' Rashomon-style thriller in which an assassination attempt on the President of the United States is detailed from five unique perspectives. As the President arrives in Salamanca, gunshots ring out. An American tourist (Whitaker) has captured footage of the would-be assassin on videotape, and now, as the stories of the other four witnesses unfold, each essential piece of the puzzle quickly falls into place. Only when all of the stories are told will the chilling truth to this shocking crime finally emerge. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
Overall I thought this movie was above average. There were some great moments in the acting and some nice twist and turns to keep you interested enough. However I have one huge problem with the film. Without giving too much away, let's just say that when you're watching this movie, you feel like you watch the same movie over and over about five times.
I totally get it! It's called Vantage Point and we're following the movie from the five different perspectives of the people involved. A clever idea in that each time, you get to see the movie from someone else's perspective and with some additional elements. You soon find out though that this isn't enough to take away from the fact that there are major points in the movie that you are forced to watch time and time again. I remember at one point I was completely fed up with this and of course I had to sit through it at least another time or two.
I feel like much more could have happened
some aspects of the movie such as the characters could have been developed further
some of the plot could have started at an earlier time and gave an even bigger surprise element to the movie. It really left something more to be desired.
Between what seemed to be sort of an underdeveloped story line and very unbelievable car chases the movie still finds the ability to remain interesting and exciting enough to nab a Matinee rating from me.
Full price= You gotta see this movie, if not you'll be sorry on Monday when your left out of the chat around the water cooler
Matinee= Pretty good, but I'd save the extra couple of bucks for a fast-food dollar menu after the movie
Rent it= Worth renting the DVD if you get ditched on a Friday night and all you have to hold is your cat fluffy
Dump it= Tell your worst enemy to go see it, chances are, they'll despise you more
