    Gym Class Heroes
This indie hip-hop group that broke out with "Cupid's Chokehold", now looks to get bigger.

What did you do in gym class?

In 1997, Travis McCoy and Matt McGinley, students at a Geneva, New York high school, met and formed a band- which became the aptly named Gym Class Heroes, who in 2007, are taking the scene by storm with a string of mega-hits including "Cupid's Chokehold" and "Clothes Off."

One cool feature of their songwriting is their references to earlier works- a line from Cupid's Chokehold:

"and I know you heard that last song / about the girls who didn't last long"

…is a reference to an earlier GCH track, "Makeout Club"

Starting at birthday parties, clubs, and festivals in the Northeast, it eventually led to a regular gig on the Warped Tour in 2003 and 2004. The GCH signed with Decaydence Records, and began enjoying mainstream success as they continued on the Tour in '05 and '06. They finished their most recent leg of that tour last November 29 in Las Vegas with The All-American Rejects.

This summer, the Gym Class Heroes move on to take even more of the world by storm: they'll open for Gwen Stefani on The Sweet Escape Tour in July and August of 2007 in Australia and New Zealand.

Before all that, the Gym Class Heroes made a stop in Seattle at a meet-and-greet for fans put on by CW11 Underground partner KISS 106.1. Check out these Northeast guys for their take on the Northwest in our exclusive Underground profile, appearing in the video player at right.
